Fizoptika - Fiber Optic Gyro - Production of miniature fiber optic rate gyros

Principle of Operation

The interferometric sensor is the one where the optical path or phase difference in an interferometer is dependent on an external physical effect. The fiber optic gyro (FOG) is the example where the rotation of the fiber loop results in a phase difference due to the relativistic Sagnac effect. Fizoptika fiber optic gyros are built as "open loop" configuration with polarizer and spatial filter. All components and the sensing coil are formed on a single fiber length. This original technique represents patented in-line spliceless technology. Absence of joints between optical components saves fabrication time and eliminates optical loss. Optical sensing assembly and processing electronics are integrated into one housing to complete miniature device. Only standard low voltage is required for operation.
